Jean Stewart of Burray (1623-62)
David Sinclair "Broynach" (1642-1714) m. Janet Ewing (1680-1730)
Capt. Donald "the Sailor" Sinclair (1701-68) m. Catherine Sinclair of Thrumstr (1718-90)
Robert Sinclair (b. 1748) m. Helen Bremner (b. 1752)
Isabella Sinclair (1777-1859) m. Donald Bain of Wick (1815-69)

The surviving children of Hellen Green and Donald Bain were:
Walter James Peter Bain (1842-1917)
Anne Bain (b. 1849)
Isabella Bain (1851-1922)
William Bain (1853-1913)
Daniel/Donald Bain (1855-1914)

Daniel/Donald is my ancestor by his first wife, Margaret Fraser. He married second Emily "Ettie" Ethel Palmer.

There are two very interesting stories about these descendants. First is the controversy over the rightful heir of the earldom of Caithness, which stemmed from the fact that David Sinclair Broynach was not married to Janet Ewing until after their first child was born (according to Scots law, if the couple eventually married, the children were considered legitimate). There is a wealth of information about this marriage and this issue on the Internet. Look especially for that information gathered by the Ewing (Ewen) family in defense of Janet. The second was the elopement of Isabella Sinclair and John Sutherland. I've recorded that story in a blog narrative "Wedding Wednesday - The Elopement."E.
